Kathy Anderson

Kathy Anderson is a third generation keyboardist for Ravenshoe United Church, following in the footsteps of her grandmother, Elsie King, and her mother, Marion MacMillan.
Kathy began piano lessons at the age of eight in Keswick with Mrs. Haywood (wife of the minister at that time). She later studied with Mary Lou Stanton of Newmarket and most recently with leading pedagogue Debra Wanless of Holland Centre, Ontario. She has completed Primary/Elementary and Licentiate Diplomas in Piano Pedagogy and is the 2015 Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association Pedagogy award winner. Kathy has a thriving music studio teaching both children and adults; is a proof-reader for Debra Wanless Music; and, is excited to have been asked to join the Board of Examiners for the Northern Lights - Canadian National Conservatory of Music.
Professional development has always been important to Kathy and attends workshops/seminars with other choir members when she is able. These include: Music in the Mountains in Pennsylvania led by Joseph Martin, Heather Sorenson, Pepper Choplin and others; The Summer Institute of Church Music in Whitby; workshops with clinician/composer/conductor Mark Sirett of Kingston, Ontario, and other choral music reading sessions.
With the assistance of many wonderful volunteers, Kathy has directed summer music camps at Ravenshoe United Church and has been able to provide many volunteer hours for youth working to achieve community service credits for school.
Kathy is delighted to work with the twenty-five member Ravenshoe United Church choir and is so proud of their accomplishments over the years. She enjoys making music with Wayne and Philip and hearing their various instruments at weekly services.
Kathy regularly brings her musical gifts to the Cedarvale Long-Term Care facility in Keswick to entertain the seniors, and, is always honoured when asked to play for weddings and funerals.
